Today was such a whirlwind of a day. Only having one day to see everythign we wanted to see took some skill. We had an amazing tour guide group who drove us from place to place, had all of our tickets, got us to the front of lines and gave us so much information I'm not sure I'll remember any of it. Rome was full of ruins, architecture and art. It was very different from Genoa. The building and sites were amazing but the land was more dry and dull. It was a day to remember.
The Colosseum
Roman ruins
Piazza Campidoglio
Altar of the Fatherland
Capitoline Hill
Trevi Fountain
Spanish steps
We had lunch at Dino & Toni's - Trattoria Pizzeria. Dino and Toni are brothers who have worked together basically forever. We didn't order anything. They knew we were tourists so they wanted us to try everything. We had margarita pizza, blue cheese pizza, zucchini pizza, an arugula pastry, egg pastry, fried olives, sweet cream, potatoes, salami, prosciutto, carbanara, prego pasta, meatballs, (which they eat separate from the noodles), flan, tiramisu, grape and nut pastries. We ate so much and had so much fun. Toni and Dino sat with us and told us about Italy and their life. It was such a fun experience. Even after eating all that food, we had to have gelato again, nutella and black berry with cream and a taste of mint.
Vatican City
So many museums, so much art and such beautiful architecture. Alesandro was our tour guide at the Vatican. I'm so glad we had him to explain everything to us. I don't think we would've gotten a lot out of it without him.
And, the Sistine Chapel.
St. Peters Basilica
The Pantheon
Exploring the city. We found the cutest cafe. I'm in love with the little umbrellas at the tables.
Watching the sunset from the ship. A beautiful ending to an amazing day.
