Easter Sunday

Easter was a great day! The morning started off with cake batter bunny pancakes that Ben made. He's been talking about  making them for awhile and what better day than Easter! He even made them little bunnies. They were delish. After breakfast we gave Eliza her Easter basket. I think when she's older and understands Easter we'll do Easter Bunny stuff on the Saturday before. I want her to really understand the importance of Easter. I'm a mean mom and didn't get her any candy! She doesn't know right!?!  She got a book that she just loves, some stickers, a dress up doll, and her favorite of all, a crown. She loves it and looks adorable in it I must say.

Today was my first time teaching Young Women's. I was really nervous and not exactly sure what to do. Well, thanks to Haylee my lesson went great. I basically copied everything she did for her lesson. Thanks again Haylee. I read the following story and gave the girls cupcakes to go along with it. I read the story quite a few times before my lesson and never cried, but during my lesson I bawled like a baby. It's a really good story.

Keep your fork!
There was a woman who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and had been given three months to live. So as she was getting her things "in order", she contacted her pastor and had him come to her house to discuss certain aspects of her final wishes. She told him which songs she wanted sung at the service, what scriptures she would like read, and what outfit she wanted to be buried in. The woman also requested to be buried with her favorite Bible. Everything was in order and the pastor was preparing to leave when the woman suddenly remembered something very important to her.
"There's one more thing," she said excitedly.
"What's that?" came the pastor's reply.
"This is very important," the woman continued. "I want to be buried with a fork in my right hand."
The pastor stood looking at the woman, not knowing quite what to say. "That surprises you, doesn't it?" the woman asked. "Well, to be honest, I'm puzzled by the request," said the pastor. The woman explained. "In all my years of attending church socials and family dinners, I always remember that when the dishes of the main course were being cleared, someone would inevitably lean over and say, 'Keep your fork'.
It was my favorite part because I knew that something better was coming...like velvety chocolate cake or deep-dish apple pie. Something wonderful, and with substance! So, I just want people to see me there in that casket with a fork in my hand and I want them to wonder 'What's with the fork?'. Then I want you to tell them: "Keep your fork....the best is yet to come".
The pastor's eyes welled up with tears of joy as he hugged the woman goodbye. He knew this would be one of the last times he would see her before her death. But he also knew that the woman had a better grasp of heaven than he did. She KNEW that something better as coming.
At the funeral people were walking by the woman's casket and they saw the pretty dress she was wearing and her favorite Bible and the fork placed in her right hand. Over and over, the pastor heard the question "What's with the fork?" And over and over he smiled. During his message, the pastor told the people of the conversation he had with the woman shortly before she died. He also told them about the fork and about what it symbolized to her. The pastor told the people how he could not stop thinking about the fork and told them that they probably would not be able to stop thinking about it either. He was right.
So the next time you reach down for your fork, let it remind you oh so gently, that the best is yet to come…

After church we rushed to the Hodgkinson's for their Easter dinner. Again, thanks to Haylee for the pictures that I stole from her blog.  Eliza sat at the kids table all by herself. She didn't eat much but that's pretty normal these days for her.

Dinner was delish. Ham, potatoes, orange rolls etc.

And for dessert Haylee made twinkie dessert. Apparently Grandma Welling made it all the time. I had never had it. It's crazy that it's so good!

Next we went to my dad's house for our Easter dinner. The forks and napkins weren't special for today. They are leftovers from our wedding! We've been using them almost every Sunday dinner since our wedding. This is the last of them...

We had a yummy ham, potatoes, etc. for dinner again! We ate way too much! Eliza was so tired. Days like this are long and hard for little ones! But, she looked adorable.

And of course matching outfits for the three of us... Some things you are never too old for.

I decorated for Easter as well! I was proud of myself.

Easter was a great day. I loved spending it with my family and loved ones.

The reason Easter is my favorite holiday...

"Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live." — John 11:25

"The miracle of that resurrection morning, that first Easter Sunday, is a miracle for all mankind. It is the miracle of the power of God, whose Beloved Son gave His life to atone for the sins of all, a sacrifice of love for every son and daughter of God. In so doing He broke the seals of death," said President Gordon B. Hinckley during the April 1987 general conference

"We rejoice, therefore, as do many, and as should all mankind, when we remember the most glorious, the most comforting, the most reassuring of all events of human history — the victory over death."

This is the season of the year when the Christian world remembers the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Out of love for His Father and for us, the Savior allowed Himself to suffer beyond the capacity of mortal man. He said, "Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit — and would that I might not drink the bitter cup and shrink — Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men" (Doctrine and Covenants 19:18-19).
Our Savior broke the bands of death. Through His Resurrection there is assurance that life is everlasting. Our Lord and Savior is the living witness that such is so.

As special witnesses, we declare that God does live. Jesus Christ is His Son, the Only Begotten of the Father in the flesh. He is our Redeemer, our Mediator with the Father. Jesus Christ atoned for our sins. He became the firstfruits of the Resurrection. Because He died, all shall live again.

Temple Square

Grandma wanted to go to the Hill Cummorah "exhibit" at the church history library. Of course we went and had a great time. The "exhibit" was quite small. It was only one table with a few pictures and documents on it. Not what we were expecting but oh well. It was interesting to go to the library. I had never been before. We walked over to the Nauvoo Cafe where we had lunch and conveniently sat by the general primary presidency.  We walked through Temple Square and saw the beautiful flowers and some beautiful brides. I'm sure they weren't expecting to wake up to snow on their wedding day today! It turned out to be a beautiful day.

This is the face Eliza pulls when I ask her to smile for the camera.

Scriptures

Eliza loves to read the Book of Mormon. We got her one of the cheap blue ones so I wouldn't have to watch her like a hawk with them. She loves the picture of Jesus towards the front. My favorite thing she does is lick her finger to turn the pages. I guess she's seen me do it before. It's adorable.

Had to show Daddy the slides!

Eliza was so excited to show Ben how she could go down the slides all by herself. I think she'd play all day no matter how cold it got! She has the funniest thing she does...After she gets off the slide she grabs some sand and throws it on the end of the slide. She did it every single time she went down tonight. So hilarious. I love the pictures Ben took of Eliza and me. We have little moments like that all day but no one is around to catch them! I love my girl!
